Suicide Prevention
If you or someone you know is experiencing distress, reaching out for support can make all the difference. Some steps you can take include:
Start the Conversation – A simple check-in can open the door for someone to seek help.
Seek Professional Support – There are trained professionals available 24/7 to provide immediate assistance. Click here for a list of urgent need support lines
Connect with Your Community – Engaging with support groups or local mental health initiatives can provide strength and guidance.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 000 or reach out to Lifeline on 13 11 14 for crisis support.
Post-Suicide Support
Losing someone to suicide is a profound and heartbreaking experience. It’s an unimaginable loss that can bring intense grief, confusion, and a deep sense of sorrow. Navigating the aftermath is incredibly personal—and often, incredibly difficult.
Everyone’s grief journey is different. There is no right or wrong way to feel, and no set timeline for healing. Be gentle with yourself. Allow space for whatever emotions arise—whether it’s sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, or even relief. These feelings are all valid and part of the process.
You don’t have to go through this alone. Lean on trusted friends or family members who can listen without judgement. Speaking with a counsellor or therapist who specialises in grief or trauma can also offer meaningful support and perspective.
Connecting with others who have experienced a similar loss can help you feel less alone. Consider joining a local or online support group for those grieving after suicide.
Writing in a journal can also help. It’s a simple way to express your thoughts and emotions, especially when words are hard to say out loud.
If at any point you feel overwhelmed or are struggling with thoughts of self-harm, please seek help right away. Reach out to a crisis line, a healthcare professional, or someone you trust. You are not alone—and support is always available.
